Good to know before you travel

Every visitor to Bonaire pays a one-time entry tax and a nature fee for the marine park. Pay both online before you travel.

Since July 2022, Bonaire no longer charges a nightly accommodation tax or a car rental tax. Instead, every visitor pays a one-time entry tax of USD 75. Pay it online on the government website before you travel, so you avoid the lines at the airport.

The Bonaire National Marine Park covers all the water around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, from the high-tide line down to 60 meters deep. That is about 27 km² of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangroves. Lac Bay and Klein Bonaire are Ramsar sites, wetlands of international importance. To help protect this area, you pay the mandatory Stinapa nature fee, which you can also pay online.

Bonaire uses the US dollar, and credit cards are accepted in most places. Most international phone plans work on the island, though roaming charges may apply. Local SIM cards are available if you want data and local calls.
